Ways to Find Someone Email Address

Posted by Dean Jones on October 9th, 2019

I recently celebrated the virtues of cold emailing, a powerful tool for communicating with other professionals and investors with unicorn. But that means you need the email addresses of the people you want to contact to be successful.

You can certainly reach out on social media, but that's not always the most effective approach. The way to go is to send a customized email (not standard email marketing) that helps you create a connection.

If you're trying to track the email address of somebody, there are several ways you can achieve that goal for free.

Go to the Website of the organization

While this may seem simple, it's one of the best places to get started. For some staff members, most businesses have contact information, so don't ignore this tool just because it looks easy.

Go over to the About Us section when you arrive at the site to see if they have information for managers or other employees. As PR contact email addresses are often included in posts, the News section is another great destination.

Sometimes the Contact Us site can yield results, but you are accepted by a form more often than not (and your message gets poured into a tub of customer service somewhere), so don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

Google It

It's a lot of information floating around online, and the search feature of Google unicorn can be the secret to finding it.

You could find the email address of somebody just by searching for their name and the word "email" or "touch." Yes, it can be that easy.

Instead, seek certain variations, such as the name of the person and the name or title of the company. Going through these options takes only a few minutes, and otherwise it doesn't cost you a penny.

Extrapolate Based on Known Email Addresses

For emails (like [first name].[last name]@[company].[com ]), almost every company uses a standard template. If you even find somebody in the organization with a single email address, it is not difficult to crack the code once you see the formatting.

Now, it works only if you have the name of the person, it can be more difficult for people with common names (think "John Smith") where the company could easily have more than one person with the same name, or names with multiple potential variants (Robert, Bob, Rob).

However, even if you communicate with the wrong person, you may be able to get the email address of your target if a response occurs in the case of mistaken identity (or if the "correct" recipient sends your message to the "right" recipient). So long as you don't expose anything that someone else shouldn't see, and you won't see it as a potential attempt at phishing, it's worth trying.

Dig In with Advanced Google Search

Try an Advanced Google Search if you want to check if your guess at an email address is right.

Bring the e-mail address you think right into the search bar with quotes on either side, like this: "firstname.lastname@company.com" If you're wrong, you might see the search results show up. Seek other options if nothing happens before you find the email address of the unicorn among the donkeys.

Join Zoom Info

By adding the Zoom Info plugin to your Outlook, you get 10 free contacts from their list every month in exchange for giving them access to your contacts. Millions (on millions) of individuals, together with 6 + million company profiles, are listed in Zoom Info, so their database is comprehensive.

Chat with an admin

If you can find in their organization a phone number of the department of the manager, see if you can communicate with their admin.

So, just because you don't have it, you don't want to ask for an email address. To get this so work, you need to be a little crafty.

Ask the admin if they can give you some support after a hot greeting (people always like to be supportive, so this statement is setting the stage). Ask if they can verify the email address of the individual and then proceed to give them your best guess of what should be the message.

They will usually stop you if you make a mistake (what they consider to be) and in exchange send you the right address.
