In California state, a brake and light inspection are required to ensure that any vehicle being issued a salvage certificate whether it is a truck, car, van, RV, heavy-duty, or motorcycle is in a roadworthy and safe condition before being retitled.

As a State Licensed Inspection station, Smog-Latino conducts a thorough and complete brake and light inspection of your vehicle's brake and lamp system.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles(DVM) considers the ownership of a vehicle to be changed when it is re-titled, even if the owner of the vehicle remains the same.

While Performing an official brake inspection, the technician will determine if any defects exist in the vehicle’s braking system or not. This requires the removal of your vehicle’s wheels for a visual inspection, then measuring the parts and distances in order to assure that the manufacturer’s specifications for the braking system are met and that it will not operate improperly or fail.

Specifications for Brake component System

1. Brake Shoes or Pads, Rotors, and Drums should be within the manufacturer's standard specifications.

2. Rotors and vehicles Brake Drums must be within the manufacturer's specifications.

3. The braking hardware of the vehicle should not be missing and in a good working condition.

4. Emergency Foot or hand brake of the vehicle should be working according to manufacturer specifications.

5. There should not be any leakage in the hydraulic system, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers, valves and hoses and no cracks in hoses.

6. Warning Lamps and ABS system(if vehicle any) must come on when and go off when they are designed.

7. The vehicle must be able to stop in less than 20 feet at a speed of 25mph.

Specifications for Lamp (Light) component System

1. All vehicle’s originally installed lighting component equipment must be in working order.

2. Headlamps have to be working and aimed at manufacture specifications.

3. Tail lamps, marker lamps, back-up lamps, brake lamps, license plate lamps, turn signals, high beam indicator & any and all warning lamps.

4. Headlamps must be amiable.

5. All adjusting hardware must be in good working order.

6. Lenses and reflectors should be intact, they shouldn’t be broken or cracked.

7. Body damage that effects the properly working of lighting equipment should be repaired prior to inspection.
