If you're thinking about owning a Pit Bull terrier, it is important to understand the characteristics of the breed as well as your current lifestyle. Caring for a Pit Bull is a long-term commitment that needs to be taken seriously, not just a simple hobby that you participate in when time permits.

Unfortunately it is very difficult for many dogs to find a second home in the event that their owners "change their minds" and decide they don't want a dog after all. The situation is even worse for Pit Bulls due to their reputation in today's society. American Pitbull Terrier for sale

Do you have the time and the energy to commit to a high energy breed such as a Pit Bull? Pit Bull terriers have very high exercise requirements and are happiest when they get plenty of play time.

The American pit bull terrier is an exceptionally powerful dog that is instantly recognizable. The dog has a broad chunky head with large cheeks that cover extremely powerful jaw muscles and has round eyes. The neck is thick and powerful dropping to strong, wide shoulders and a deep chest. Colouration is numerous but these short haired dogs can range in colour from brown, fawn to black, blue and white.

Contrary to popular opinion these dogs are not wanton killing machines, they do have violent tendencies toward other dogs but are no more violent toward people than other dog breeds. They are loyal, obedient and good with children and families. They make excellent guard dogs and are generally good with other family pets including other dogs if they have been socialized with the other pets from puppy hood. American Pitbull Puppies for Sale

The American Pit Bull Terrier is a breed that needs a lot of exercise. They are energetic, and if not given enough activity, they tend to be restless and destructive. Known to be intelligent and athletic dogs, they excel in numerous dog sports such as fly ball, lure coursing, weight pulling, and advanced obedience contest.

If you are interested in owning a Pit Bull, you should possess a similar sense of adventure. A day at the beach, a park, or just playing Frisbee in the backyard are all excellent things to do with your four-legged friend. These activities will also strengthen the bond between you and your dog and make ownership even more rewarding.

Everyone who had a Pit Bull recognized there was a buck to be made and suddenly became a breeder. Due to slipshod breeding, human aggressive dogs multiplied like rabbits. Aggression was bred to aggression, to make the most ferocious dog possible. It was a fast and easy way to make money. Who cared what happened to the animals...there were plenty more where they came from. Puppy mills and backyard breeders had a field day, producing quantity, not quality. The breed degenerated due to the shoddy breeding and the quality of the breed suffered. AKC registered American Bully Puppies

If you're more of an inside person however and don't enjoy exercising daily, you should seriously rethink your idea of Pit Bull ownership. There are many other excellent dog breeds that will probably be more suitable to your lifestyle and it isn't fair to penalize your dog simply because you are too selfish to get an alternative breed.
