You can also use a stump grinder which has a rotating cutting disk that chips away the wood. The disk has unique metal teeth that destroy the stump as well as the root system, turning everything into small chips of wood. The root system has to be destroyed at a depth between six inches and one foot, which would allow the soil to remain healthy and usable for later planting.
