Things To Do While Visiting Katakolon, Olympia

Posted by Akistours on October 18th, 2019

Katakolon, Greece, is an exceptionally charming hole-in-the-wall port. The port of Katakolon or Katakolo is a popular stop for cruise ships, offering passengers the opportunity to visit the Olympic venue. We decided not to go to Ancient Olympia's UNESCO World Heritage Site, the site where the Olympics were first held because Gordon had already been there in a pre-Paula career. I wanted to see why a lot of visitors missed this little city. But, let's face it, there's not much published about Katakolon, so it's a chance to share what we've discovered.

It is also the entrance to ancient Olympia, the Olympic Games ' fire and founding site, and one of Greece's most significant archeological sites. Katakolon trip is one of the best ancient Olympia tours that will help in exploring the best and most ancient history.

The famous Ancient Olympia is also near to Pyrgos, the capital of Elis prefecture, Katakolon Port. Always a port town, it boomed between the end of the 19th century and the mid-20th century, exporting to several major European ports the renowned raisins of the region.

 Katakolon Shore Excursion

Make the most of your time with this private half-day shore trip to Olympia in Katakolon port. Ancient Greece's sanctuary and ancient Olympic Games venue, Olympia, is one of the most important archeological sites in Greece. You'll check out sights like the Temple of Zeus, the Bouleuterion, and, of course, the original Olympic stadium with your own personal guide. You will also have plenty of free time to explore the new Olympia or to visit the Olympic Games Museum. You can easily hire an affordable Katakolon taxi to get a ride to the desired destination without any trouble.

 Katakolon Beach

Katakolon Beach is a place to relax, sunbathe, take a dip in the refreshing sea, and enjoy a seaside taverna or cafe-bar for tourists who prefer a day by the water. Katakolon Beach stretches for miles, 30 km from the end of the harbor city, and it's just a short walk from the harbor!

Katakolon beach is small, so it's great for young children's families. Sadly, there has been a spike in jellyfish over the years. Watching children as motorists use the beach is also significant.

 Taste the local wine

Mercouri Estate and Winery, where we were welcomed by the owners and their dog, was the first stop on our train guided tour.

The Mercouri Winery, surrounded by 40 acres of vineyards, is owned by the Mercury family's fourth generation and is Greece's second-oldest property. Founded in 1864, it has more than 150 years of history in wine and olive oil production.
