About networking for Windows? 7 and Windows? XP:
The Windows? 7 is the newest operating system launched by Microsoft?. Getting your computers to a network wouldn?t be difficult using operating systems such as the Windows? 7, and the Windows? XP, and other operating systems as well. The setup for a home network becomes easy to create in case of the Windows 7?. If the Windows? 7 is running in all the computers then a home group is created automatically. If it already exists then you can join it. However, making different operating systems in contact with each other would be a difficult task. Through networking you can share files documents, pictures, music, and videos with other computers.
Tips to set up the networking for Windows? XP and Windows? 7:
The first thing to do is to check the workgroup name on a computer which is running the Windows? XP. Right click the icon on the desktop named as my computer, and then go into the properties, in the properties click the computer name to check the workgroup name in order to change the name, type the new name in the computer name after clicking Change, and then click OK. Make it sure that you type the same workgroup name on all the other computers (in the network) using the Windows ?XP. For the computers using the Windows? 7 there is a slight change in it for changing the settings for the workgroup name, and that is by clicking my computer, go into the properties, under the computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, there will be a current computer name, and workgroup so change this name. And there will be a pop up for the System Properties windows, click change, and type the name of the workgroup as per your requirements and then click ok.
Things to be kept in mind:
When you connect to a network for the first time you should choose a location for the network. This will set the correct firewall, and security settings automatically for the type of network that you want to connect. It is an important thing to understand that the options for the location are in a straight relation with the network categories in the Windows? 7. The network location, and the Windows? Firewall both do not depend on each other, but the Windows? Firewall?s configuration is based on the current network category or supports multiple active firewall profiles. Core networking rules are activated if you are connected to a public network, or connected to a private network. Whether the Windows? Firewall is activated or de-activated this will be displayed by the SNL dialog, and Windows ?firewall has no effect on the SNL dialog.
