What types of teas have zero caffeine?

Tea has numerous health benefits, such as reducing the risk of bones related problems, losing weight, heart disease, and consuming large amounts of antioxidants. However, studies show that tea leaves contain more caffeine than coffee beans. Caffeine is actually not so bad in small amounts, but in some people, it can still cause anxiety and insomnia.

Many green teas, white teas, and black teas are sold & advertised as “decaffeinated,” but since decaffeinated tea cannot be made completely, thus ‘decaf’ tea also contains a small amount of caffeine. However, the normal amounts of caffeine do not affect most tea drinkers, but if you are extremely sensitive to caffeine, you should only stick to herbal tea.

Herbal teas viz. ginger, chamomile, and mint are completely caffeine-free. This is because these types of tea are not made from camellia plants, like most teas. They are made in place of seeds, roots, dried leaves, flowers, that are usually caffeine-free. If you are wishing to drink tea without risking any ill-effect, then herbal tea is the best choice.

Have a look on various types of zero caffeine teas:

Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is made from ginger root and helps relieve indigestion and symptoms of nausea. Ginger tea does not contain natural caffeine. It is available in health food stores, drug stores, and grocery stores. Moreover, one can also prepare their own ginger tea by using a small piece of raw root and put it in boiling water and then leaving the mixture for a few minutes.

Fruit Tea

Fruit tea is also an excellent caffeine-free tea (technically this is not a real “tea”). As the name suggests, fruit teas are fruit-derived drinks that are caffeine-free, and most of these teas are sugar-free. Tea companies offer teas that are a mixture of different fruits and add catchy names to really attract tea lovers to their taste.

Peppermint Tea

Peppermint tea is made from the leaves of dried peppermint plants. It is tasty, fresh and slightly sweet. It is very fragrant and provides many health benefits. Peppermint tea does not contain caffeine but should be avoided if you are pregnant or suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Rooibos Tea

Rooibos or "red bush" teas are grown in South Africa and are naturally sweet and woody, making them an excellent alternative to tea and coffee. Bush tea is usually flavored with hot water and then milk and sugar, like regular black tea. It is completely caffeine-free and has a low level of tannin.

In this article, I’ve explained about various types of teas that have zero caffeine. Although many people may not consider these beverages as a ‘true tea’, no one can deny that these are the healthiest brew one can include in their diet.
