The Importance of Recreational Sports in a CommunityPosted by edwardjohnson on October 30th, 2019 Recreational sports are not only important to children in school, but also young adults and older adults in the community. By having recreational games such as baseball, soccer, or basketball available to residents you will help them with exercise, occupying their time, learning sportsmanship, and getting to know their neighbors. Not only will residents have fun playing among their fellow neighbors, but they will also be able to meet others they have never met before in hopes to make new friends in the local area. Once the community starts getting to get to know one another, people will be more apt to go out and help the community more in a time of need. Occupying Residents Time By adding recreational sports to a town or city's agenda, teenagers and young adults are less likely to get into trouble as they will have a newfound sport to occupy their time. To praise everyone for their participation and efforts, you could even use EDCO Awards & Specialties to create trophies or awards for everyone that participated on a team. Not only will they look forward to playing the game with their friends and fellow neighbors, but they will also have a trophy to look forward to as they take part in sports activities. Exercise Many communities, especially the smaller ones, understand just how important the health of its residents truly is. By adding recreational activities like baseball, basketball, and football, everyone would be more apt to join in on the fun while keeping their bodies in shape at the same time. The great part about using sports as exercise is that you are normally too caught up in the fun to even realize that you are burning a large number of calories just by running across the court or field. Getting Together as a Community All communities should come together once in a while to take part in a dinner, a community meeting, or a sports event. By allowing residents to play recreational sports, you are also allowing them to get to know each other better and show true sportsmanship to every neighbor. For kids, this is an excellent way to introduce them to other kids in the area. Most children are scared or nervous to go up to others their age, so presenting this opportunity to them will put them face to face with other children in hopes that they will reach out to each other even after the game has ended. Teaching Children Sportsmanship Sportsmanship is very important for children to learn at an early age as it is a key way to show others respect and empathy. Most children who are enrolled in elementary school have yet to play on a sports team, so playing on recreational teams and learning that sportsmanship is beneficial will get them ready for middle school and high school where they will likely play sports. If a team member does not show true sportsmanship, there is a chance they may be kicked off of a team. Teaching them early will give them the knowledge required to play on a team in their later school years while showing the correct amount of sportsmanship to other teammates and the opposite team. Throwing recreational sports into your community is a great way to teach children sportsmanship, have residents get to know their neighbors, get everyone to exercise regularly, and occupy everyone's time so no one in the community is ever bored. After starting recreational sports teams, you will notice just how well everyone starts getting along in the community and before you know it, residents will start to come together more often even when games are not scheduled. For children, this can be extremely beneficial as many kids are always in need of new friends to offer them positive perspectives on life and to just have a listening ear when times get tough at home or school. Once your community starts the process of adding recreational fun, they are bound to add more once everyone sees how well it brings everyone together. It can only be a win-win situation for everyone in town. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
