Most people understand that, as long as a vehicle passes inspection, the DMV will as easily register the brand new car you just bought and drove off the lot, as it will register my 10-year-old Honda that has an odometer reading of 200,000 miles. Few people would boast about the fact their car or truck or motorcycle is registered with the DMV because they understand this statement is meaningless. However clearly people understand the fact the DMV is a registry and that the fact a car or a truck or a motorcycle is registered doesn't say anything about the quality of the vehicle, they are not able to translate their understanding of a registry when it comes to the AKC and the dogs it registers. Many people assume that AKC registration and the registration certificate the AKC sends an owner means that dog is special in some way, that AKC papers acknowledge the dog's quality. The belief is that an AKC registered dog is somehow better or healthier or superior in some way to a dog of the same breed that isn't registered. And the expectation is that an AKC registered dog is certainly better or healthier or superior to mixed breeds that lack papers. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. And this is because the AKC is a registry. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
