With another royal wedding on the horizon, there is mounting speculation about the kind of ceremony Princess Beatrice will have.

The revelation that Princess Beatrice will receive no taxpayer funding for her big day has prompted many to expect a pared-back affair.

Bea is the first of the Queen’s grandchildren to have a privately-funded wedding which is likely to be free from the pomp and ceremony usually reserved for royal nuptials.

The Mail on Sunday reported Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter will opt for a toned-down celebration in her parents’ back garden as opposed to the usual carriage ride and crowds.

While Princess Eugenie is a less senior royal even she still garnered a spectacular wedding gown.

When she tied the knot with Jack Brooksbank last October her dress was by British fashion designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos.

Designer wedding dresses are something of a royal wedding tradition however, the fact Bea’s big day is unlikely to be televised may mean designers are less keen to dress her.

A palace source told Radar: “At this point, rather embarrassingly, the response has been lukewarm and it looks like she might have to actually pay and design it for herself.”

Ahead of the wedding, a friend of Princess Beatrice told the Mail on Sunday she wasn’t sure if Bea wanted a lavish big day.

They said: “There have been three big royal weddings there in the past year or so and I’m not sure that’s what Bea wants.

“Edo has a child, there’s the situation with his ex, and Beatrice might just feel something more low-key might be more fitting.”

Princess Beatrice will become a stepmother to Edoardo’s two-year-old son Wolfie when they marry and some believe she may want to keep the wedding low-key for his sake.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk that Beatrice’s scaled back wedding “makes perfect sense.”

He said: “It has been reported that Beatrice is opting for a low key royal wedding when she marries Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi next year.

“This makes total sense, I had thought that she would have chosen St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle like Eugenie as the Yorks so often seem extravagant, but this would have been controversial involving high-security costs, estimated last year at £2 million for Eugenie’s wedding, from the public purse.”

He added: “The idea of a far less spectacular wedding paid for privately, is an excellent one, as it would be a happy and fashionable affair and it would also be popular with the public and in the press.”
