OTF automatic knife, also known as out the front knives are very useful. Sometimes it requires maintenance in order to run smoothly. In this article, we will discuss how to take care of your knife.

  1.       Disassemble the knife: While performing this step, you need to be extra careful. Initially, fire the blade and leave it out. Take out the screws that hold it together with slider and the spring. There are tons of videos on YouTube that will guide you on the same.

  2.       Lubricate your blade: On the internet, there are many types of lubricants available to clean your blade. Some people use gun oil while some use canola oil. It is important to avoid a greasy mess!

    Begin with spraying the knife blade or else you can pour a little oil onto a piece of cloth. Now wipe up and down the blade removing any excess rust. It is advised to use a lint-free cloth.

  3.       Protect the stainless steel: Blade is made out of stainless steel which makes it important to take care of it. It is important that your knife has not stuck or gotten stiff over time. Here, it is advised to take a piece of A4 paper and fold it over three times. Start cleaning from the bottom to top, then right to left and lastly from bottom to top again.

  4.       Make it sharp: OTF automatic knife works best when it is sharpened. Now comes the question, how often should you sharpen it! The answer is it depends on the amount of usage it undergoes. If you want to determine the sharpness, test it on a paper or leaves. If it leaves a rough mark, then it is time to sharpen.
