Spinal Decompression Treatment to Cure the Problem of Herniated Discs

Posted by spinetherapys on November 6th, 2019

Traction therapy has been in use for the treatment of lower back pain for a long time. Non-Surgical spinal decompression treatment is the latest form of traction therapy that is getting highly popular. Many people who are going through insufferable pain due to herniated disc are taking the route of this therapy in the hope of getting relief.

Even though this treatment sounds as painful as a herniated disc, patients are not hesitating to choose this treatment. The probable reason behind this is that medicines seem to fail to solve the problem completely and spine surgery is extremely expensive and sounds more risky. Besides, surgical procedures also don’t provide any guarantee that they won’t create other serious issues in the future such as bone spurs.

In such a case, non surgical alternatives are found to be more reasonable and safe. The only thing that patients need to consider is to find a practitioner who is skilled, experienced, and knowledgeable. Seeing someone who is new or amateur for spinal decompression treatment is extremely risky and unsafe. However, this doesn’t mean that it is unsafe to choose this treatment. Patients can get much relief through this treatment. So, there’s no reason to avoid it.

To understand how this treatment helps in alleviating the pain caused by herniated discs, it is necessary to be familiar with what spinal or disc decompression is and what symptoms are associated with it.

Spinal/Disc Compression

The spine is formed with vertebrae or bones which have little cushions between them. These little cushions are known as discs. They protect the spine and give spine the freedom to be flexible. However, if any of these discs is damaged or injured during an accident or illness, part of the disc material may break or form a bulge that presses against the nerve(s) running along the spine. When this happens, it is generally called a herniated disc. Sometimes, people also call it a bulging disc, ruptured disc, or pinched nerve. No matter what people call it, injured or damaged disc can cause excruciating and debilitating pain.

Symptoms of Spinal/Disc Compression

Herniated or bulging discs can influence any part of the spine. But, in most people, the lower lumbar region is affected. This often appears in the form of chronic pain, numbness, weakness in the arms and legs. While there are several ways to treat, the most effective way is to get chiropractic care of a seasoned practitioner.

How Spinal Decompression Treatment Helps

Under this treatment, the patient is asked to lie on a traction table or other motorized device for spine stretching. The main aim of this treatment is to create spaces between the vertebrae in order to reposition the affected disc. As the disc is relocated non-surgically in its place, it alleviates the pressure on spinal nerves and thereby, reduces the associated pain.

Thus, anyone who is suffering from herniated discs can go for Spinal decompression therapy. This treatment is much safer and effective when pain is related spinal vertebrae and nerves.
