How to Create Custom Flags

Posted by Radmin on November 7th, 2019

A custom flag is a great way to advertise a business. Flags make it easy to let people know if there’s a special sale or other event going on, or even just to remind them that a business is there. A premade flag would also do the job just fine, but a custom flag adds a personal touch that people will really notice. For someone with no design background, designing a flag may sound daunting. But, there are just a few simple choices to be made.

Shape

The first thing to consider when creating custom flags is the shape. Rectangle, feather, and teardrop are the shapes usually used for advertising flags. All the shapes are somewhat similar in that they’re taller than they are wide. Rectangular flags are self-explanatory. Feather flags look, as their names would suggest, like a feather. It’s curved outward at the top and inward at the bottom like someone took the straight sides of a rectangular flag and pulled them up into curves. Teardrop flags are like upside-down teardrops.  Their irregular shape can limit the design of the flag a bit since the tapering in width is so dramatic. But, they’re also the most eye-catching shape.

Text

Advertising flags have a message they need to convey clearly and succinctly. There’s only so much space on the flag, and the text needs to be large to be easily read at a glance. Keep the text short, sweet, and informative. Is the flag advertising a sale? Those four letters are all you need. If the goal of the flag is just to draw attention, put the business name on the flag.

Pictures

If the business has a logo, use it. This will make it clear whose sale or other event is being advertised. It will also make people more familiar with the logo, which builds brand recognition. If there’s no logo to use, some sort of other relevant image works just fine. For example, an ice cream parlor using a picture of ice cream on their flag.

Colors

If there’s a logo involved, use its colors for the whole flag. Building a recognizable brand is important. If the color scheme is being chosen from scratch, the only real guidelines are to make sure the flag is readable and looks aesthetically pleasing.

There are many ways to advertise. Using a custom flag is a simple and easy way to do so.
