Hoi An is in east Vietnam on the coastline. It is a historic town that was once a major port dating back from the 15th to the 19th century.

It is well-known for its preserved Ancient Town that is now an UNCO world heritage site. You can see by the architecture has foreign influences, from wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colorful French colonial buildings and Japanese bridge.

The Thu Bồn River was used for the spice trade and the river ends in Hoi An also called Hai Pho where all the different countries trading settled.  That is why architecture has foreign influences.
