Minority groups affected by racial profiling include African, Asian, and Hispanic Americans. Racial profiling is a form of discrimination in law enforcement targeting and victimizing minority racial groups. In the case study, the decision by the trooper to pull over an African American officer because his car had three antennas is a case of racial profiling. The African American officer was clad in a recognizable police uniform. The trooper’s argument that the car had three antennas appears to be an excuse after realizing he may face disciplinary action. The trooper pulled the car over basing his assumption on the race of the driver, and he appeared shocked when he had noticed the police uniform. The trooper was not honest when he indicated three antennas as the reason he had pulled the African American officer’s car over. Indiana law does not prohibit multiple antennas in a car as long as the car design does not impersonate those used by the police. Indiana is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States and with highest cases of racial profiling of minorities by enforcement agencies. A police officer has no right to pull over a vehicle unless it is a traffic offense. Racial profiling cases are easily dismissed as being too sensitive to the law. Victims feel intimidated reporting racial profiling cases to enforcement agencies as most violations involve police officers. Police officers also get away with profiling cases arguing that it is a part of their job to observe and follow up suspicious activity. Minorities are under constant threat of harassment due to racial profiling and identification with a crime. In conclusion, racial profiling is the discrimination based on racial background.
