Sometimes you might get bored of the regular food you eat on the daily basis. Even the butter chicken will get boring, if you are cooking the same every alternate Saturdays. But how about trying a different south Indian recipe that might become one of the permanent selections in your menu?

The recipe is quite simple and very popular in Andhra. If you like the spicy flavour in chicken, you might want to try this Andhra style pepper chicken recipe which is quite simple to prepare. And don’t worry; it doesn’t take too long to prepare the same. Let’s start with the ingredients first.

Ingredients:

  • ½ kg chicken chopped in cubes
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoon of ginger garlic paste
  • 3 chopped green chillies
  • Salt , to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 6 Curry leaves
  • 2 teaspoons Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Cooking oil
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons Whole Black Peppercorns, freshly crushed
  • 1/2 cup Coriander (Dhania) Leaves

Instructions:

At first, marinate the chicken pieces with salt, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, and lemon juice. Keep it aside for at least 30 minutes for all the flavours to infuse together. Now take a deep bottomed pan and heat the oil. Add the cloves, cinnamon stick, and curry leaves. After 20 seconds, add the chopped onions and let it caramelize for at least 2 minutes.

Now add the green chillies along with marinated chicken in the same along with other dry spices. Keep mixing the curry and add water accordingly. Check the curry after every 5 minutes and add ¼ cup of water, depending on the consistency of the chicken you wish to eat. Let the chicken boil in the mixture properly.

Just a small tip: if you want a juicy chicken curry, make sure you close the lid and cook the chicken for at least 20 minutes. The chicken recipe will become tender and will taste better. Once the chicken is cooked properly, sprinkle the coriander leaves on top and serve the same with hot roti or rice. In Andhra, people prefer this recipe with Parantha or steamed rice along with lentil soup on the side. Do try this recipe and share your experience.
