A great alternative to staying in a hotel is to stay in a traditional Moroccan Riad. Riad is a name for a Moroccan home, which is appropriate, as this is what a Riad will be to you during your stay. Riad comes from the Arabic word for garden, as most Riads feature and interior garden or courtyard. The courtyard will usually have a water feature, like a fountain and a few orange and lemon trees. Designed to give shelter from the North African sun, Riads have a few small windows on the exterior of the building, then feature many rooms which all lead to the interior courtyard.
