12 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOUR WEDDING DAY

Posted by MichealH Alexander on November 14th, 2019

Before your wedding day, whether you have months left or just a few weeks, there are a few things you will benefit from knowing. You might think you know all there is to know, having been to many weddings in your time, but the fact is, you won’t understand until you’ve been through it all yourself. As you’re likely spending a huge sum of money on this day, make sure you know all there is to know by reading on.

1. It Might Not Actually Be The Best Day Of Your Whole Life

Don’t be disappointed, but your wedding day might not actually be the best day of your whole life. It’ll be one to remember, sure, and you’ll be happy because you’re marrying your soulmate, but the fact remains that your wedding may be a let down. This isn't for any particular reason. It’s not because you chose the wrong first dance song or because your chicken was dry. It’s simply because it’s a lot of hype surrounding one day, and you might realize you were more excited about planning the thing than about the day itself. It’s normal.  Wedding Organiser

2. Release Expectations Now And You’ll Have A Better Time

By releasing all expectations now (as hard as that may be), you’ll have a much better time on your big day. The more expectations you have, the more disappointed and let down you stand to be if things don’t live up to your imagined wedding day. Let things play out, try to let go of the reigns a little, and just enjoy yourself. Learning to go with the flow is a great skill to have.

3. Yes - Trialing Your Hair And Makeup Is So Important

Sorry, but you shouldn’t try to save money by trusting your hair and makeup to go right on the day, even if you’re planning on doing it yourself. Trialing different styles beforehand is key. You might realize that you don’t like the way one particular hairstyle looks from a certain angle and decide not to have it, even though you were sure it was going to be the one on your wedding day. You really don’t want to take any chances!

If you can, hiring professionals to take the burden away from you is a good idea. Hire a makeup artist with experience in wedding makeup and a strong portfolio. You don’t want a look that is too heavy or one that changes your features so you look entirely different. The goal is to look like you, but better. The makeup needs to last all day and look great for pictures, and only an experienced wedding makeup artist will be able to do this.

4. You Don’t Want To Look Like Somebody Else

Following on from the last point; you don’t want to look like somebody else on your wedding day. Your goal should be to be the best version of yourself. So, for example, feel free to head to the gym and eat more vegetables (providing this won’t ruin the fit of your dress), but you should probably reconsider getting lots of work done to your face, even if it’s temporary fillers. You probably don’t want to dye your hair a brand new color that you’re not sure you’ll like, or try a new makeup look. You need to go with what you know you love and what makes you look radiant. You don’t want to look back at the wedding photos and not recognize yourself, or wish you’d done something differently.

6. Don’t Make Such A Fuss Of Your Shoes

You’ve got a long day ahead of you, so don’t buy shoes that are going to kill your feet. If you feel comfortable, you may even choose to wear flat shoes so that you can dance and enjoy the day without having to deal with blisters or rubbing. If you must have nice heeled shoes, see if you can break them in before hand, or invest in some patches to stop rubbing and other issues. You may also want to have flat shoes ready for later on.

7. Not Every Photographer Is Created Equal

Not every wedding photographer out there is created equal. This means you need to do careful research, checking out portfolios and setting up consultations to see which one is right for you. Photographers like Vittore Buzzi have a specific style, and you need to make sure you love the style and that you’re going to enjoy looking back on it, as the pictures are one of the only wedding souvenirs that last and last. You should also ensure that you get along with the photographer, as you’ll be spending a huge portion of the day with them. You need to feel comfortable taking direction from them, and feel confident that they will listen to you.

8. You Should Take Off Your Dress To Use The Bathroom

Having 5 bridesmaids hold up your dress so you can pee isn't ideal. Many brides find that simply stepping out of it and having a bridesmaid hold it for them is much more efficient!

9. Give Yourself Plenty Of Time Because You’ll Run Behind

You will run behind on the morning of your wedding, there’s no question. Your hair may take longer than normal, or your makeup may run behind - whatever it is, make sure you plan for it. If you think it’ll take you 3 hours to get ready, plan for 5. If you have lots of bridesmaids to get ready too, this is even more important.

10. Something Will Probably Go Awry

Something will probably go wrong, which is why letting go of expectations is so important. Whether it’s a child crying during your ceremony or spilling sauce on a beautiful tablecloth, it’s already happened to a bride out there somewhere.

11. Put Together A Survival Kit

Putting together a wedding day survival kit could be your saving grace. You could task your maid of honor with putting one together, or buy one pre made. You should have water, deodorant, mints, aspirin/ibuprofen, makeup for top ups, dental floss, sewing kit, first aid kit, bobby pins, a mirror, baby wipes,, hand sanitizer, and anything else you can think of. Being organized like this could save you so much trouble on your wedding day.

11. Make Water Your Best Friend

Make sure in the weeks leading up to your wedding, that you’re drinking plenty of water. Staying hydrated is key to feeling re-energized and avoiding headaches. The last thing you want is to have a pounding headache on your wedding day, or to feel sleepy! Aim for a minimum of 2 litres of water per day. Make sure you attempt to get this in on the day too, especially in between any alcoholic beverages that you have. You’ll have a much better time the day after!  Planning a Small Wedding

12. Delegate Jobs To People You Can Trust

You don’t want to have too much to think about on the day, so make sure you delegate certain jobs to people you can trust. For example, many brides choose to have information interceptors that take care of things they don’t feel the bride needs to know. Choose people who are capable of taking care of little things for you, who you truly trust to make the right decision should something crop up.
