How to Design Autism Awareness Earrings?

About 1 in 59 kids born in the US have autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports. ASD tends to occur in people with certain genetic or chromosomal conditions and commonly co-occurs with other conditions such as psychiatric, developmental, chromosomal, and genetic diagnoses. Kids from older parents are at a higher risk of being diagnosed with the disorder, Autism Speaks says.

If you or someone in your family has autism, you understand how important it is to promote autism awareness. Awareness makes it possible for others to understand and accept people who live with autism. By doing a little bit to spread information and education, you can do a lot to eliminate or reduce the judgment that many people still have about the condition.

Why Awareness Matters

We’ve come a long way in understanding autism disorders. However, a lot of people who live with the condition still find themselves rejected, judged, and isolated. Awareness can encourage understanding that will help replace all that with inclusion and friendship. Companies and employers can come to value individuals with autism and see what they can do, how they can help and become a part of the community. It encourages looking beyond a person’s disability and doing your part in making the world a better place for people with autism. Understanding can change the way society still views autism and that’s the goal that Autism Awareness wants to achieve.

Designing Autism Awareness Earrings

There are many ways to express your support for autism awareness. There is no shortage of campaigns and fundraisers that you can participate in. You can even create your own. But if you want a subtle but tangible reminder, wearable pieces are a good way to go. Autism awareness earrings, for instance, are easy to carry around. There are plenty of designs that you can choose from that will allow you to show your love and appreciation for your loved one with autism. After all, what we wear says something about us. It tells people about our style, personality, and in this case, our beliefs, our advocacies.

Wearing the Earrings

Buying earrings that will serve as a constant reminder of your loved one or that you can give to your family and friends is one way to show your support. Autism awareness may have come a long way, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. It wouldn’t hurt to wear a little reminder every day whenever you go out. Anyone who loves and cares for, or lives with autism disorder knows how life-changing the condition is. If wearing a small earring piques someone’s interest or gets them interested enough to start asking questions, to care, then that only contributes to ongoing efforts in improving the way the world sees and connects with people with autism.

Shopping for Earrings

Go with bold and bright pieces. Pick something small and subtle. Whichever design you choose, have fun finding one that allows you to express who you are. There is no single way to promote autism awareness. It can be through campaigns and it can be as simple and fun as wearing a pair of earrings.
