What is an RCMP police clearance certificate?

Posted by Noatry public on November 18th, 2019

The document is of the certification that the applicant has never
been involved in any of the criminal activity which subsequently leads to the involvement of the Canadian police. This is also required when the individual is
applying for immigration status to other countries. The individual who applies for the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is also required to indicate the period of
stay in Canada. The documentary proof of the stay should also be provided. There is also requirement of first entry and last exit date STAMP. The document is
issued to the individuals that reside in Canada for a period over 6 months.

Nitty-gritty of the background check is that the Citizenship and Immigration of Canada (CIC) requests the temporary and permanent resident applicants to submit
their fingerprints or their criminal clearance certificate, which is from any country in which they have resided for a period more than 6 months and this is after
they had turned 18.

Through the electronic age, the fingerprints can be done in two ways i.e.

1.    Ink-Jet fingerprint: This is a good old way of putting ink on the fingers and then pressing the fingers onto the fingerprinting form, which is by the

authorised agency.
2.    Electronic Fingerprinting: Through this method, the individual should press the fingerprints on the electronic panels. Presently, the Royal Canadian

Mounted Police (RCMP) takes in about 22 weeks to process the traditional ink-jet fingerprint but the electronic fingerprint takes in just 4 weeks.

If the CIC has made a request for the set of fingerprints or if it wants to go forth with the RCMP police clearance certificate, the applicant, in order to save time

should get the RCMP clearance certificate to CIC directly.

But it should be noted that RCMP will not submit the RCMP clearance certificate unless CIC has initiated the clearance request in the first place. In another context,

if the applicants get the fingerprints for CIC, the CIC will further forward it to the RCMP for a clearance certificate. The RCMP Police Clearance Certificate is required

at various times like:

1.    If the individual is an Express Entry Candidate

When it comes to this, there are only 60 days to submit the police certificate. As soon as the individual is in the pool, there should be no delays and the person

should start the police check as soon as possible.

2.    If the individual is an International Experience Canada (IEC) candidate

During most of these cases, the individual needs to provide the police certificate when the work permit application is submitted.
