Summary: Hospital management provides critical care services to patients who need serious medical care because of the sudden happening of life-threatening problems. Patients in critical care units or intensive care units are also known as ICU that is be concerned by a group of health care providers such as a physician, care managers, specially trained nurses, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists and some other providers.

The meaning of critical care services is to provide certain instant services to the patients who are facing life-threatening conditions, where vital organs are at a risk. By using highly modified and advanced curative, diagnostic and monitoring technology, the main aim of critical care services is to sustain the functioning of organ system and improves the condition of a patient in a way that her or his illness or any underlying injury can be treated by the doctors after that.

Such services are often provided by the expert team of health care professionals in Pediatric intensive conditions, adult intensive care units, and in an assortment of step-down and post-operative units. Therefore, Critical care services have an essential role in sensitive care hospitals. If in hospitals, these services or units get inundated with abrupt surge or spike in patients dimensions, surgeries got cancelled and the wait time emergency department will get back up. Critical care services are both limited and expensive.

The centre of critical care services or systems is the ICU (hospital intensive Care). The main and common roles in the ICU are the medical director who provides lapse concerning to the patients’ medical condition along with the activities in the Unit, responsible physician who is also known as MRP, works as main person for the care of the patient, and the unit manager who manage all the activities of operation in the unit, for instance, budgeting and staffing. These three main roles in ICU are professional roles that are essential for saving the lives of the patients who are suffering from life-threatening problems.

When the condition got more critical patients got admitted into the ICU from the hospital ward, emergency room and subsequent surgery. Usually, ICU has one bed but it is stated that the world’s largest ICU has a total of 30 beds and the average time of staying in hospitals is about seven days. There are mainly two types of critical care services first is able to provide the highest level of services to attend the patients who need prolonged and advanced respiratory support that also includes persistent ventilator support and sometimes basic respiratory support along with the support of one or more organ system. The second can provide service to the patients who need detailed invention and observation, short-term non-invasive aeration or care before the operation that also includes support for individual organ failure.

Critical care services are one of the essential cells of any hospital which is also known as intensive care. it is a crucial speciality of medicine that works for the care of the patients who are suffering from serious life-threatening problems. Patients might require support for ventilator support (respiratory compromise), hypotension/hypertension (instability), cardiac arrhythmias, keen renal failure and the cumulative effects of multiple failures of the organ that specifically referred as multiple organ dysfunction syndromes. In the above-mentioned conditions patients required invasive/intensive monitoring, for instance, critical hours after surgery. The patient who measured as too unstable is immediately transferred to the intensive care units.

In India, the cell of the critical care services in hospitals has a vast and advanced combination of technologies and specialities that offers possible survival of the patients after getting major critical conditions. The base of the management of ICU is a methodical organization of critical care services that influence essential overall results considers the length of stays, mortality and infection length. ICU or critical care unit in hospitals are opened for 24/7 and 365 days. It is blending of multidisciplinary ICU and ICUs regards to stroke patients, post-cardiac surgery patients and patients of post-transplant. There is an ICU for pediatric and neonates cases. Advanced hospitals are redefining critical care units with the help of highly advanced and modernized infrastructures.

Critical care services settings

Almost every medical facility in India usually has critical care units (ICU) in which patients who are suffering from critical life-threatening conditions. Some hospitals have multiple cells that depend on the circumstances and requirements of the community. In hospitals and medical departments ICUs are situated near the cells of operation for the patients who might get into some kind of operation and next to the telemetry floor for the ones who might get into cardiac issues.

Some medical departments and hospitals have “step down” units for the ones who can check out of the ICU but needs a critical level of care than the ordinary health care services. Usually, only intensive care patients are in the ICU. Still, when hospitals get less space, patients with the less critical condition can be shifted to the ICU but doesn’t need intensive care services. At this moment Coder of the ICU has to report some other apposite (E/M) evaluation and management codes.

Physicians also frequently administer critical care in other cells of the facility, for instance, the nursing and ED floor when patients get into some kind of life-threatening medical problems such as stroke and cardiac arrest.
