Foot calluses and corns are mostly caused by inappropriate shoes, which exert a certain pressure on certain areas of the leg. Foot Corn Removal

To treat corns and calluses, dermatologists recommend the following tips:

  • Humidify the callus or corn in warm water. Keep doing this for around 5-10 minutes or until the skin becomes soft.
  • Now, gently scrub the corns or callus with the pumice stone. What you have to do is first soak the pumice stone in slightly warm water, then use a stone to lightly rub the corn or callus. Make sure when you use the stone to gently file the corn, then the stone movement should be in the lateral or circular motions to eradicate the dead skin.
  • Also, be cautious not to remove too much skin as this can result in infection and bleeding.
  • After the treatment make sure to apply a moisturizing cream or lotion daily on the treated area. It is best to pick a moisturizing lotion or cream containing urea and salicylic acid. These constituents aid to progressively soften hard callus or corn.
  • Use padding on the foot (treated area) to protect the area from any irritation and discomfort.
  • Wear comfortable or well fit shoes. A common cause for the appearance of corn is shoes that do not have the size and shape suitable for the foot. Ask the shoe seller to measure your foot size and choose shoes that are not too loose or too tight.
  • Toenails should be tidy and trimmed. If your toenails are too long, your toes will be pressed against your shoes and corn will eventually form. Thus, to eliminate this condition always keep your nails clean and trimmed.
