Inside CannTrust: Whistleblower reveals more illegal grow rooms at the company

The whistleblower who brought the huge illegal cannabis scandal at CannTrust to the media has brought forward more evidence which allegedly shows the company’s biggest unlicensed cannabis growing facility operating in January of this year.

Nick Lalonde had been employed at CannTrust from July 2017 up until May of this year. The evidence brought forward by Mr Lalonde led to Health Canada conducting an in depth investigation into the company which ultimately saw the companies production license suspended. On the 8^th of July CannTrust issued a statement, acknowledging the breach, and noncompliance of Health Canada’s regulations.

During the investigation into CannTrust, thousands of Kilograms of cannabis grown in the unlicensed rooms that they operated were seized by regulators. Within weeks of these events CEO Peter Aceto would be terminated, over 100 employees of the company would face losing their jobs, and the share price of the company would see monumental losses putting the company in the trading range of penny stocks.

Last month, the company issued a statement to shareholders that they plan to further destroy plants and inventory that hold a value of over million USD. It is currently unclear whether or not CannTrust has destroyed those plants. Mr. Lalonde has explained when presenting the evidence to the regulators that the videos in question were stored on a cell phone he was using while employed at the company.

In the alleged 5 minute video, Mr. Lalonde claims that the location is known as RG8, the room where he claims to have been tasked with creating plastic walls to hide the illegal plants and grow operation.

The nearly five-minute video shows RG8 or Range 8, according to Lalonde, the room where he claims to have been instructed to put up plastic walls to hide illegal cannabis in photos sent to Health Canada. “Out of the five illegal grow rooms that was the most important one. That was the biggest one,” Mr.Lalonde said in a phone interview on Tuesday. “It was the most important range in the facility, and it's an illegal range.”
