Know about Medina Statute and Constitution of Medina

The Prophet Muhammad (BPDyC) managed to build in a short time, in historical terms, the Constitution of Medina, a model of Islamic political constitution, thus leaving us a legal and political legacy that is fruitful to this day. This occurred in the midst of a clash of forces between the Prophet and his enemies, which was initially unfavourable to Muslims, if we compare the number of the respective contingents. And we should not only count the enemies of Mecca's Islam, but also the potential enemies of all of Arabia, and even more, of the whole world known at that time, since Islam meant from its inception a potential change from all countries and of all the social relationships that existed at the time.

Muslim Backwardness

Under these circumstances it is extraordinary that the Prophet (BPDyC), accompanied by a short number of believers, in the middle of a desert country, apart from the most powerful civilizations of that time, has been able to emerge victorious from such a challenge. This constitutes one of the notable signs of the veracity of Islam.

Jizya and Zakat testifies that at certain times good may prevail over evil in human society, although in most times the opposite happens, to the test of men.

Friendship in Islam

There will always be a small group of persuaded and other people in good faith, who stand firm, whatever the time, and do not cease to strive for justice and peace even if they fail, faced with a large number of unbelievers and tyrants. They try to predominate. Because success is in bearing witness to the truth, whatever the outcome, and the apparent failure is sometimes a stronger testimony than material success, as was the case with Al-Husain (P) in Karbalá.

The role of the Medina Statute

The statute is for Muslims the main and oldest model of an elementary code for Islamic civil life. To this must be added the establishment of the Shura or council of consultation, plus the regulation that the Prophet (BPDyC) established for the Christians of Nayran when they visited, and other similar documents.

Many of the provisions of the statute are transitory, but the important thing is the spirit of freedom, justice and law that he encourages, and its general principles that serve today as a model for the political norms of Islamic society. Its fundamental conception is that Muslims, whatever their number, always constitute a political entity, with the same vision of life, of human society, and of the spiritual position of man in the world.

In conclusion, the document presents the legal and ideological principles of Islam, which proposes a complete civilization or culture, not just devotion.

The extraordinary thing about Medina's statute is that Islam recognizes religious freedom. In Islamic society, anyone can practice other beliefs, under the protection of legislation, which was not recognized by any previous religion, except for the decadent paganism of the Romans. Islam effectively abolished racial and religious discrimination. Although, in truth, the only religions to which he recognized freedom of worship are those that have texts considered sacred, such as Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Mazdeism, etc .; Human inventions, such as spiritualism, Satanism or atheism, are always expelled from the bosom of Islam.
