Chillers are used across different industries for various reasons. One of these is the health care sector, where cooling systems play a crucial role in achieving superior patient care and efficient hospital services. They fulfill these 3 specific purposes:

They Optimize Tools and Equipment

Hospitals utilize several kinds of equipment for diagnostic tests and special treatments. As these machines continue to operate daily, they generate heat as a byproduct of all the work they do. If the temperature isn't regulated, they could break down, causing costly repair bills and delays in patient care services. So, it's necessary to have chillers to maintain the optimal conditions of various medical devices. Two examples are:

MRI Machine
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine provides pictures of the patient's internal organs to help doctors detect abnormal conditions. But, this device won't function efficiently without a chiller. The magnet inside it that's responsible for creating the photos needs to be cooled constantly.

CT Scanner
Similar to MRI machines, computed tomography (CT) scanners produce images of the body's internal anatomy. But, instead of using magnetic fields, they utilize X-rays. They have tubes that heat up quickly, which may cause malfunctions if the temperature isn't controlled. So, a cooling system is used to adjust it.

They Help With Patient Thermal Management

Not only do these devices make medical equipment more productive, but they also cool down a patient's body. This may be done to perform a laser eye surgery or vein treatment, which requires a significantly lower temperature for a safe and effective procedure. One of the methods used is the esophageal approach, where the temperature management device is attached to a chiller for heat exchange.

In other cases, only a particular area of the body is targeted instead of the general core temperature of the patient. This technique is used in chemotherapy treatments, where localized skin cooling is applied to the scalp to reduce hair loss.

They Keep Medical Samples at Ideal Temperatures

Patients are often required to have their blood extracted for diagnostic purposes. To preserve the specimen for accurate results, chillers are needed to attain its ideal temperature. In certain molecular genetic tests, the sample is frozen at 68 degrees F to prevent the live cells from dying.

These reasons explain why cooling systems, like medical process chillers, are extremely vital to the health care industry. Without them, a machine may malfunction, or surgery may be unsuccessful. These temperature-regulating devices help save lives by increasing the efficiency of medical equipment.
