3 Important Exercises for Women with Dumbbell Sets

Men and women have different body profiles. Sadly, only a handful of gym equipment manufacturers sell specific dumbbell sets for women. If you’re a girl, then you probably know that it can be tricky to find the perfect set that is designed for your specific needs and goals.

When finding dumbbell sets for women, be sure to consider general factors such as the weight and type of exercise you do. Fitness experts advise females to always begin with lighter weights before lifting heavier dumbbells. This is especially important if you are new to strength training. After you’ve mastered the proper form, only then should they gradually transition to heavier dumbbells.

Want to try your new dumbbell set for women but don’t know how to begin your workouts? Try these three simple but essential dumbbell exercises.

Stiff-Legged Deadlift

This is a very basic dumbbell exercise, but it will surely make you feel some tension on your legs, glutes, and upper body. To start, just stand with your feet apart (hip distance). Get a pair of dumbbells then bow forward while keeping your back flat, your chest broad, and your core engaged. Then stand back up while lifting the dumbbells. No need to bring them up to your shoulders or chest—just keep your hands down while standing and holding the dumbbells. Then go back to starting position. Do this for 5 sets and 10 reps.

Dumbbell Clean

This exercise is simple yet a little more challenging than the stiff-legged deadlift. The starting position is the same. The only difference is that you will only use one dumbbell—perhaps one that is heavier than the ones you lifted on the first exercise. Put the dumbbell on the ground, then lift it slowly. Once it reaches past the line of your knees, jump to bring it to your shoulders. Hold for about two seconds before slowly going back to starting position.  

Box Step-Up

If you want to tone your core and legs and at the same time improve your balance, this is for you. Add this to your circuit workout and you will surely sweat buckets. However, you need to prepare a step box that is between 15 to 20 inches to perform this movement. This move is easy. Just hold onto a pair of dumbbells by your side while stepping onto the box with your right foot and stepping down with your left. Make sure to alternate each step up through each set.
