This botanical garden is also considered the oldest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Constructed in the 18th century by Pierre Poivre, it covers a vast region of about 37 hectares. Also known as Deer Island, Ile aux Cerfs is a gorgeous island located near the eastern coast of the country in the Flacq district. This island is extremely popular for its enchanting sandy beaches, an attractive lagoon, and facilities for indulging in some exciting activities, such as snorkelling and swimming. Don't forget to explore some great offerings in the capital city of Port Louis. It was created in 1735 by Mahe de Labourdonnais, a renowned French governor. Today, this city is the largest in Mauritius. It is surrounded by the Port Louis Moka Range, a charming mountain range. Through the years, many colonial buildings have been preserved well in this island country and the best example is Fort Adelaide or La Citadelle, which was built in the 19th century by the British.
