HUT 20 Points No fewer than nine players from the Montreal Canadiens' squad have had their ratings adjusted by EA at the first ratings update of the season on Thursday.
Six of them see their overall increase of one point while three others see it rather depreciated of a level.
Club captain Shea Weber has gone from 87 to 88 despite a slow start to the season. However the # 6 has recovered well since mid-October when it totals 17 points in 22 games including six goals and a differential of +6 in facing the best elements of the opposing teams. These figures put him in the tenth position among NHL defensemen ahead of Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson.
His assistant Brendan Gallagher passes his side from a 84 to a well-deserved 85. Constant as usual Gally is the best scorer of the Habs this season with nine goals. His 17 points also put him in second place in team scoring behind his fellow trio Tomas Tatar who also saw his score increase from 84 to 85. Two adjustments deserved for members of the first trio of the CH while Tuna is the first player on the team to reach 20 points ... in 22 games.
Joel Armia's early-season explosion was also recognized by EA as the Finn was promoted to 80 overall. Armia is the CH's second-leading scorer with seven goals tied with Drouin and Tatar.
Ben Chiarot and Nick Cousins also see their rating increased from 79 to 80 and 77 to 78 respectively.
If some thought that Jonathan Drouin Nick Suzuki and Cale Fleury were going to see an improvement on their side they were wrong. No change occurs in their case.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Paul Byron have seen their side down. Only 1 point but still ... it reflects their difficult start to the season. Kotkaniemi has hit the back of the net only twice since the start of the season. In 15 games he has amassed a meager crop of 3 points. As for Byron he scored four in 19 games. Respectively KK goes from 82 to 81 and Byron from 80 to 79.
Ottawa Senators players have also been closely watched by EA over the past two months. In total nine players have seen their overall changes starting with the Quebec Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Top scorer and scorer for D.J. Smith's troupe Pageau leads the NHL in the +17 differential. The small center player was awarded Thursday a three-point increase to his overall from 79 to 82. His former linemate former Leafs Connor Brown for his part had his rating go from 80 to 82.
Filip Chlapik Nick Paul and Vitaly Abramov three young players representing the future in the Senators see respectively their score from 74 to 77 from 72 to 75 and attention ... from 67 to 72!
The situation is a little less rosy for some players already established in the NHL at Sens.
Chris Tierney Artem Anisimov Mikkel Boedker and Bobby Ryan have all seen their overall depreciated by one point. Tierney went from 82 to 81 Anisimov from 81 to 80 Boedker from 81 to 80 and Ryan from 81 to 80 also.
