What are Food Allergies and How to Deal with It?

Posted by myfreshskin on December 2nd, 2019

Flood allergies are different from food intolerance; food allergies make your condition worse even with a single bite, while food intolerance would evoke two or three symptoms for the same. Food allergies are triggered when you intake something that your immune system hates. An allergy happens when your immune systems react or attack certain proteins, by producing antibodies to fight against it, considering it to be harmful pathogens. The immune system performs a protective response but, at times, overreacts to cause tingling in the mouth, diarrhea, nausea, burning sensation in the lips and mouth, wheezing, lips and face might swell, skin rash, etc.

Other such reactions that occur due to food allergies include:

  • Digestive symptoms including stomach ache or vomiting
  • Swelling of the tongue causing breathing and speaking problems
  • Dizziness or swooning
  • Inflammations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Panting
  • Circulatory collapse
  • Cough
  • Trouble during swallowing
  • Tight and hoarse throat
  • Weak pulse
  • Paleness on skin
  • Anaphylaxis

These symptoms may range from minor to severe even with the same food. Also, genetics may play a major role, and children may inherit allergies from parents, while siblings may suffer from similar or different allergies. Food allergies, if not calmed immediately, may cause fatal reactions, and hence one should avoid all such allergic food as much as possible. Foods like soybeans, wheat, peanuts, shellfish, fish, eggs, milk, etc. trigger 90% of allergic reactions. These reactions may involve skin, the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract, and the cardiovascular system, etc.

At times, these hidden allergic foods could trigger obesity causing hormones and also due to digestive irritability the food remains undigested making it convert into fat. The conditions go worse when people unaware of food intolerance or allergies keep on consuming it leading to eventual weight gain.

How to calm down your food allergies?

So, getting it diagnosed at the earliest would be the best option. This can be done using the antigen leukocyte antibody or ALCAT test, which helps in identifying the hidden foods that could trigger allergies. Based on this, the patients can look for a dietary prescription from the doctor, which can help the patient get all essential nutrients even after excluding that particular food or ingredient. There is a possibility that patients may be allergic to some ingredient rather than food and take it as food only to avoid eating it all. This is not the reason. Knowing about the problematic ingredient first would let you find the right medication to calm the allergies.
