6 Ways to Improve Your Spoken English for the IELTS Speaking Test

The benchmark sets for IELTS is at a high level. So when a candidate plans for the test, he/she should first assess his/her in-depth knowledge about the language. IELTS tests your skills in English for not only writing but also speaking and listening. However, the test has two categories- IELTS for Academic Test and IELTS for General Training Test. Both exams have a little difference, but they technically focus on your skills for English. The higher you score the better you get the opportunity.

The article will throw some light on how to improve your spoken English to score higher. No matter how well you have done in writing and listening tests, your poor performance in spoken English test takes your score below average. Let's discuss some key points to perform better during a spoken English test.

First of all, we will have to be agreed to the fact that everything you want to do needs passion. Practicing with passion will help you a lot. Push yourself to become passionate about learning the language. Remember your aim for IELTS and work continuously on it with a passion. You should have a never-give-up spirit. It will surely help you to get success.

Learning any language needs vocabulary power and English is not different. Gradually, collect new words in your mind. Make a routine to learn at least 5 new words every day. It will be around 150 new words in a month and around 8000 new words in a year. It is not bad at all. Knowledge is drops of water. Slowly and steadily, you will improve. Vocabulary power improves your listening, writing and speaking skills. You will not hesitate to speak fluently.

Join an IELTS coaching institute because the homely environment is not so encouraging for speaking English. You can also join a spoken English program.

Think in English! Just like native English speakers, you will have to think in English. Usually, native English speakers think in their mother tongue and then translate into English. It is a completely wrong way. It will never allow you to speak fluently. You will fail to maintain the flow of speaking because your mind is juggling between two languages.

Listen and watch the English News, talk shows and movies. If possible listen to the English news on any International news channel. It would be helpful in increasing your grasping power for the language and improve your speaking and listening power.

Work on your grammar. English becomes an easy language if you have grammatical knowledge. Make sure to learn English grammar in English. Focus on conjunction, tenses; direct to indirect speech, adjective, noun, and adverb. Revise the lesson as much as possible.
