What are Demister Pads and Ammonia Valves?

As the name suggests, a demister pad helps in the removal of mist from the gaseous phase. Entrainment is a commonly encountered problem in the process of separation of liquid and gas. Entrainment generally entails gases and vapors carrying over a particulate matter that can affect the quality and purity of the substance.

A good solution to this issue is to invest in a demister pad. It is a device that can separate entrained liquid droplets from the gas or vapor that you are trying to separate and purify. More and more industries dealing with gas separation have been seeking out demister pad suppliers for a wide range of reasons. But what exactly is a demister pad?

Demister pads can be a mesh type coalescer that can separate mist from gas by its aggregation until it is heavy enough to change state to liquid droplets. When good demister pad manufacturers are employed, droplets can be removed down to 5 microns or lower while keeping the free volume of maximum 99% and a surface area up to 1940 square meter per cubic meter. This high value of free volume makes the pressure drop across the pad sufficiently low and even negligible in certain applications. The efficiency can be up to 99.9% due to the minimum pressure drop.

Demister pads are preferred for the following reasons.

  • They are low in cost but highly efficient.
  • They can be configured to any shape and size to suit the requirements of the equipment.
  • They can solve emission control problems.
  • They reduce the damage caused to corrosive liquid droplets and help in the recovery of valuable liquid and purifying the gas.
  • They improve the overall efficiency and cost-efficiency of the process.

Ammonia valves are also manufactured according to the set industry standards to suit the many industrial refrigeration requirements. They are available in straight and angle designs as well as in butt weld, socket weld, or threaded connections.

These valves are designed with the highest quality materials. This makes it easy to dismantle and open in the case of repairs. The design lends flow properties that are quite favorable in industrial refrigeration. The valve is housed in cold-resistant steel to withstand low-temperature processes. The spindle is made from polished stainless steel that is suitable for O-ring sealing. The packing gland ensures the optimum tightness in the range of temperature and pressures the processes are performed at.

Ammonia valves manufacturers take care to include the following salient features in the valves they design.

  • The valves can be used with most common refrigerants, including R717 and non-corrosive refrigerants. Thus they are compatible with most industrial needs.
  • The valves are receptive to flow in both directions.
  • The valves are available in straight and angled versions.
  • The pressure range is 29 bar G.
  • The temperature range is -60°C to 150°C.
  • The valves are built to last, reliable, and resistant to corrosion.

Ammonia valves and Demister pads are essential in the gas separation industry. Quality demister pad manufacturers India are even more important for preventing entrainment and enable precise separation of pure substances. Therefore, there is a need for a lot of consideration when selecting a manufacturer.
