Chesapeake Bay Candle is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of premium candles and other home fragrance products. The company had an annual net sales of approximately million in 2017. The co-founders Mei Xu and David Wang founded Chesapeake Bay Candle in 1994 by making candles using empty soup cans in their Annapolis home’s basement, according to its website.
They named the brand to pay tribute to the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. They moved their company to Rockville and opened two factories in Asia to make Chesapeake Bay Candle, a popular home fragrance brand, and Blissliving Home. They opened a 125,000-square-foot factory, warehouse and distribution center off Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie in 2011. In 2016, the company introduced a Chesapeake Bay Mind and Body Collection, which was a line of home fragrances infused with essential oils. The company sells candles that have several scents, such as ones labeled “Peace and Tranquility” with cashmere lavender and “Love and Passion” with grapefruit mango.
It was purchased in 2017 by Newell Brands, which also owns several well-known brands, including Yankee Candle and WoodWick, along with home appliance brands Crock-Pot, Calphalon and Oster. Chesapeake Bay Candle appears under Yankee Candle on its website.
