Passionate UI design for tourism campaign to promote Tianjin, China, aiming to allow users to experience the authentic beauty of Tianjin. living in tianjin.
Overview of Tianjin
Tianjin is one of the four municipalities in China. Its name means ‘the place where the emperor crossed the river’. Facing the Bohai Sea, it serves as Beijing’s vital gateway to the sea. Tianjin is the largest coastal city in Northern China. The city has a mix of ancient hutongs and neighbourhoods that stand alongside impressive libraries and museums. Just 30 minutes away from the capital of Beijing, Tianjin can easily be overlooked by many visitors to China.
It is no exaggeration to say that the city bears a splendid historical background. it was desecrated by foreign invaders long before the foundation of the People’s Republic of China. The city was once shared by nine countries. This marked an extremely hard period for the city and her people because those imperialist countries left permanent marks in her body, most notable of which were thousands of villas. It is this that gives the city part of its charm. Spend a long weekend to explore the city properly. The uniqueness makes Tianjin standout as food paradise, historical and cultural heritage.
First of first, Tianjin is my hometown. However, it has been overlooked by visitors. It is our duty to promote Tianjin’s uniqueness and beauty. Secondly, Tianjin is like a book, you never know what is the next chapter. When you turn around the corner, you will see Chinese traditional style architectures, however, when you turn around again, you will see the European style. The surprises she provides you are endless. Tianjin as a quick getaway from Beijing, the capital city of China is a place worth exploring and living in.
1. Survey&Interview
I surveyed 7 users to figure out the content they want to get from the tourism website for the city they will visit soon.
Weather, Foods, Attractions, Travel tips, Culture
are the key content people highlight.
Except the survey, I also interviewed 2 of the users. Their pain point for visiting an unfamiliar city is the language and culture. They also would love to get involved into the local life and experience the city like insiders.
2. Competitive and Comparative (C/C) Research
Comparing with a few current tourism websites like Lonely planet, Visit our China etc. , they are mostly text-heavy and without sufficient imageries supports. Most of the websites just generally introduced the overview of Tianjin and the top attractions and food in Tianjin, however, none of them reveals the local life in Tianjin or the traditional and modern beauty of Tianjin. So I decided to create a content website mostly focus on the local life of Tianjin from day to night.

The business goal of the website is aiming to share the local beauty of Tianjin with more and more people.
