Change is Inevitable. How do you deal with it?

There is change afoot in Physical Therapy: a continual, inevitable change. Reimbursement is increasingly a stickler, more paperwork is necessary and less hands-on treatment from the PT is given.  There are new degrees, residencies and certifications.  There are more and more evidence-based research articles to digest and apply to our patients.

Given the continual change in our profession, how are you going to deal with it?  There are three ways to work with the changes around you:

  1. You can resent that which happens to you,
  2. You can consent to that which happens to you, OR
  3. You can invent that which happens to you.

As your day moves forward, I invite you to consider ways that you can invent the changes in Physical Therapy.  Become a thought-leader, share your ideas for handling change.

I keep an old letter in my wallet as a reminder of the constancy of change.  The letter is from Martin Van Buren to President Andrew Jackson.  Mr. Van Buren appears, at first, to resent the changes that are happening around him, and he eventially comes to be one of the people who will invent that which happens.
