Photo-stability is a Light transmission measurement. As per the ICH (International Conference of Harmonization) guidelines every drug and drug product has to be photo-tested to ensure that the exposure to light does not cause any photochemical degradation of the product and packaging.

These confirmatory studies help identify anticipatory and precautionary measures needed to manufacture or formulate the product and if light-resistant packaging is needed. Once the exposure tests are over the samples are checked and closely monitored for any changes in physical properties such as appearance, clarity or color of the solution for any assay degradation.
