Not All Composite Doors Are Equal!

Now we’re firmly in mid-winter and the temperatures are plummeting – not only in the South-West but across the whole of the UK - we suspect you’re probably reaching for the thermostat a lot more often. Over the next couple of months, even the most stoic and reluctant of homeowners are likely to cave in and power on the central heating. This time of year is when previous customers of our composite front doorsin Somerset, Dorset and Devon really begin to notice their superior quality. When it’s freezing cold outdoors and you switch your central heating on, front doors are quickly subjected to two drastic extremes of temperature. The interior of the panel is much warmer.

As a result of these sudden extremes, cheaper low-quality doors will often distort out of shape, meaning that they stop fitting so neatly in the frame. If a door is no longer fitting properly against its frame, then obviously you can expect some serious practical and security implications. You might find it tricky to fully close, lock or unlock. Needing to spend extra time trying to force your door open or closed is undoubtedly a hassle in heavy rain, snow or wind. You don’t want to be struggling with your front door - you want to be snug, comfortable and dry in the warmth of your own home. You also really don’t want the expense of having to replace multiple cheap doors.

Luckily for past customers of our composite front doors in Somerset, Dorset and Devon, they are designed to properly withstand the cruel winter weather conditions. West Country Windows provides doors that are impressively strong and resilient, built around a 48mm solid or composite wood core with a robust weatherproof facing. Most composite door makers allow for a bow of up to 10mm before owning up to any issues – meaning your new front door could become tricky to lock and unlock even in its first winter. West Country Windows offers our customers the ultimate in security, reflected in our PAS 24 2012 Enhanced Security accreditation and Secured by Design approval.

Many of the solid core composite doors have a clever moisture barrier technology. This intelligent system stops water from reaching the core in periods of heavy rainfall. If any water ingress takes place, it can also make door panels swell, warp or otherwise delaminate. Other features of our composite doors include a hard-wearing skin with realistic woodgrain texture (if you choose this, but there are over 11,000 other colour options), giving a clearly superior finish. However, when it comes to all-round performance, it’s what’s on the inside that matters. Our core is way ahead of rivals.
