How to Treat Glaucoma at an Early Stage

Posted by iclinix on December 21st, 2019

Glaucoma can often creep in silently. It may not show up until later in life and the chances of being affected by it increase with age. Glaucoma leads to the steady loss of vision, it may start with blurry vision, and if the damage is not controlled, then glaucoma can lead to permanent loss of sight. In this segment, we will give you a brief about types of glaucoma, symptoms, when to get tested and what are the different treatments.

First, let’s delve into the different types of glaucoma. The two main types are Open Angle Glaucoma and Angle Closure Glaucoma. The two can be distinguished by the flow of the liquid in the eye. In Open Angle, the drain structure in the eye appears normal, but the liquid doesn’t flow like it should and in Angle Closure the eye doesn’t drain right because the drain space between the iris and cornea is too narrow.

Glaucoma symptoms are usually not very apparent in the start and can often be abrupt. There can be years of gradual damage without any symptoms before the disease is detected, and the treatment is commenced. Therefore, regular examinations are recommended for people, especially with the history of the disease in the family because the most common cause of glaucoma is hereditary.

However, in case of symptoms such as blurry vision, the appearance of a rainbow-colored circle around lights and severe eye and head pain may be the symptoms of Angle Closure Glaucoma.
