How Makkah Became the Holiest City in Islam

In the Hejazi Region of Saudia Arabia, 70 Kilometres inland from Jeddah, at a height of 909 feet above sea level, the city of Makkah is located. It remains one of the holiest cities of Islam. it has a strong association with Islamic history. Here’s how it became the Holiest City in Islam.

The Holy Kaabah is here

The most sacred site of Islam, Holy Kaabah is in Makkah. Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) built it himself with the help of Hazrat Ismail (AS).

First-ever Mosque on Earth; Masjid-al-Haram is the first-ever masjid built on Earth. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself validated the fact that the 1st mosque on Earth was Masjid-al-Haram and the 2nd was Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.

Jewels of Paradise; The Jewels of Paradise; Maqam-e-Ibrahim and Hajar-e-Aswad (the Black Stone) are also present here.

Zamzam Well. The well of purest Water on Earth, Zamzam is also here. It dates back to the times of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) yet the water never depletes.

Muslims perform Hajj and Umrah in Makkah

Every year, Millions of Muslims come to the city of Makkah for the performance of Hajj and Umrah. They come here, perform Tawaf of the Holy Kaabah, Do Sayee of Safah and Marwah, Reside in Mina, Muzdalifah, Perform Rami, Sacrifice Animals and offer all other hajj rituals through their hajj packages UK and from other countries. All of the sites of rituals of Hajj are also in Makkah.

It is the Birthplace of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAWW)

Makkah is the birthplace of our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). He (SAWW) grew up here. As a matter of fact, it is the dearest land on earth to the Prophet (PBUH). The importance of which can be evaluated from the fact that when Quraysh forced Muhammad (SAWW) to migrate to Madinah, he (PBUH) became very emotional.

First revelation of the Quran

At the age of 40 years, in the cave of Hira on Jabal-e-Noor, the first-ever revelation of the Holy Quran was made to Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) in Makkah. Jibril (AS) came with the message of Allah Almighty and the first 5 verses of Surah Al-Alaq were revealed. Islam originated from here (Makkah).

House to many Sacred Hills, Mountains, and Caves

Makkah is the house to many sacred places; Hills, Caves, Mountains, Lands.
The cave of Thawr; Where Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Hazrat Abubakar (RA) took refuge for three days when migrating to Madinah.

The Cave of Hira; First Revelation of Quran

Mount Arafat; Where pilgrims gather during Hajj, where Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) delivered the farewell sermon, where all the people would gather on the Day of Judgement.

Declared as the holiest city in the Quran and Hadith

Makkah has been declared the holiest city in Islam by Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) himself as well as Allah Almighty in Quran. The prophet (PBUH) narrated that, Allah has made Makkah a sacred place, not the people. So, for anyone visiting, he/she should never cause any harm or violence to anyone here. Not even to the land.
