Jerusalem City - the 4000 year old wonder

Jerusalem is the crowning glory of Israel. It is a city rich with historical significance and is held as a sacred spot by people belonging to the Abrahamic Religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). It is a melting pot of cultures blending together the new with the old, the modern with the ancient. It has existed for over 4000 years, and was the seat of power of the biblical King David. It is no wonder then that Jerusalem is highly contested property, having been the focal point of several wars all throughout history (broken down completely twice, attacked 52 times and captured 44 times).

But apart from all of the political tensions, Jerusalem is a beautiful city, and is a wonderful place to visit. It is interesting to note that millions of people make a pilgrimage to this city every year to experience its wonders. In this article, we will look at a few interesting places that you must visit when you come to Jerusalem on a visit.

The Old City

This has to top the list for being one of the greatest historical sites that the world has ever seen. This place is deeply revered by religious people because of the deep, rich history that is contained within its streets. Some of the most famous sites within the Old City are the Western Wall (which used to belong to the old Temple), the Dome of the Rock (a site sacred to the Muslims), the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (believed to be built over the place where Jesus Christ was buried). Of course, this place is not only famous because of these legendary historical sites, but also for the delights that await in its seemingly endless streets and alleys. You can get lost in the culinary treats that await you in the bazaars dotting the streets including the famous hummus. You can spend days in the Old City and still be left dazed when you come back again. The best hotels Jerusalem are pretty close by and you can get reasonable accommodation on your visit here.

The Israeli Museum

This is undoubtedly the best in the world. It has a huge range of artefacts, manuscripts, historical relics, art and other historical documents that will thrill even the most cynical of people. This is a must see for people looking to get in touch with history. There are good Israel lodging sites available for you to stay during your visit here.

The Western Wall

This is a historical site that is a must see. There is a massive emotional aspect of visiting this place that must be experienced first-hand, regardless of your religious affiliation. As you visit this place, be prepared to shed a few tears and be emotionally touched.

The Mount of Olives

This is a significant site of religious importance, and many people make pilgrimages to this place. You can get amazing views of the walls surrounding Jerusalem which make for great photographs.

As always, as you are visiting these places, there are hotels in Jerusalem Israel where you can get good accommodations very easily.
