Sandeep Singh was born in 27 February 1986 and he is an indian professional field hockey player from Haryana and he is also an ex-captain of the indian national hockey team. He generally holds the position of full back and is a penalty corner specialist for the team. Sandeep Singh currently is a DSP in the Haryana Police. Sandeep Singh was famous as Flicker Singh in media.

In Early life Sandeep Singh hails from Shahabad town in Kurukshetra, Haryana. He received his early education from the Shivalik Public School, Mohali and his father name is Gurucharan Singh and his mother name is Daljeet Kaur Saini. His elder brother, named as Bikramjeet Singh is also a hockey player and he plays for Indian Oil.

Sandeep Singh's Career


Sandeep Singh played his first international hockey match in January 2004 in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Kaula Lumpur. He holds the Captain position in the Indian national team in January 2009 and Rajpal Singh succeeded him later in 2010. Sandeep Singh is famous for drag-flicker. There was a time when he was said to be the best speed in the world in drag flick which was the speed of 145km/h.
Under his captaincy, the Indian team was able to secure the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009 after defeating Malaysia in the finals at Ipoh. India won the title after 13 years of long wait. Sandeep Singh was also the Top Goal Scorer of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament.
The Indian Men's National Field Hockey Team have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in Londone after a long time of 8 years. The team had a great victory over France in the finals of the Olympics qualifiers by hitting the score of 9-1. Sandeep Singh (Flicker Singh) done a great job in it by scoring five goals including the hat trick. Sandeep Singh was the highest scorer of the Olympic qualifiers tournament by scoring 16 goals.


Club Career


Sandeep Singh became the fifth highest paid marquee player at the inaugural Hockey India League as the Mumbai franchise bought him for US.400 with his initial price of US000. The Mumbai Team was named as Mumbai Magicians. Scoring 11 goals in 12 games, Sandeep Singh represented as the top scorer in the first edition of the league. In 2014, Punjab Warriors Signed him and then after playing two seasons for the team, he was signed by Ranchi Rays for US,000 in 2015 starting 2016. In 2014, Sandeep Singh was relocated to the UK to play for Havant Hockey Club.
Shooting Accident
On 22 August 2006, Sandeep Singh was accidentally gunshot in the Kalka Shatabdi Express train, while on his way to join the national team due to leave for the World Cup in Africa two day later and he was seriously injured in this accident and he was almost paralyzed and spent 1 year on wheelchair . When this accident happened he was only 20 years old and then Singh no only recovered that serious injury but played hard and played the world cup for India 2010 Indian team.
