Identifying The Best Laptops

Posted by adairsawyer on February 27th, 2012

When it comes to laptops, identifying a single best laptop out of every one available on the market is an almost impossible task. This is because even the very best laptops will always lose out to each other on at least one aspect or another. Laptop manufacturers are ultimately limited by the technology available today and the economics of making profits. It would, theoretically, be possible for a manufacturer to make a laptop that is light, thin, is blazingly fast and handles the most demanding computing tasks while boasting a 2TB hard drive, but the cost of such a machine would be so prohibitive that only extremely wealthy consumers would be able to afford it. Instead, laptop manufacturers have to compromise and you have to be informed well enough to decide which compromises are reasonable and which are not.

The best laptops all have respectable hardware specifications. This usually starts with the speed of the processor, which determines how many tasks the laptop can handle at one time. Today’s best laptops should be able to handle ten or more tasks such as editing a word document, playing back audio and video, browsing the internet, and more all at the same time without any noticeable slowdown in the system.

Another good indicator of whether a laptop belongs among the category of the best laptops is battery life. With more and more people finding the need to use their laptops while on the go and away from a wall socket, the need for decent battery life is a growing one. The best laptops should have batteries that last for at least 6 or 7 hours on a single charge.

Given that most of the work done on any laptop involve your input through the keyboard and trackpad, it is important that both of these components are responsive, easy to use and comfortable. The keyboard should have keys that are easy to press, and not too small such that it reduces your typing accuracy. The trackpad should read the movements of your finger accurately, and also move the cursor smoothly across the screen without any stutters or freezes.

A webcam has also become a must in all of the best laptops. This is because online video chat programs have become extremely popular all around the world, allowing for free face-to-face communication anywhere in the world that has an internet connection. The best laptops also have webcams that function well in low light situations, since it is fairly common that people use their laptops in areas that are not very well lighted.

The size of the hard drive is another important factor in determining which are the best laptops. Laptop hard drives are usually limited to several hundred gigabytes. Of course, many customers wish that their laptop could feature a 2TB hard drive or larger, but that is simply not realistic. Such a laptop would be prohibitively expensive. In order to have the storage capacity that a 2TB hard drive provides, it would be much more economical to purchase an external 2TB hard drive. With a 2TB hard drive, you could probably store every single picture that you have taken since you were born and still have plenty of space for more.

Whether you are looking for a selection of the best laptops or an external 2TB hard drive, you are sure to find what you are looking for at Oyyy!
