A Florida teenager got all dressed up to attend her homecoming dance, but she was barred from entering it because she chose to wear a sleek, chic black jumpsuit.

Darcy Krueger had been home-schooled for almost her entire life, but she attended several events thrown by Tampa Bay Homeschool Prom, the organization behind the Sept. 27 dance.

After shopping around for a dress, the 17-year-old couldn't find anything that she liked, and decided to wear a jumpsuit, instead.

"I already had this in the closet and I was like, 'Hey, this could totally work.' I could just dress this up and feel good about this," Darcy told ABC Action News.

However, when she got to the event, the organizer told her she couldn't go in because of what she was wearing. She would be allowed in if she went home and changed into a dress, however, but she decided against it.

"I was very surprised," she said. "I called my mom and I was telling my friends about it because I couldn't really believe it."

Her mother was equally dumbfounded and took to social media to show her frustration.

"My daughter was just denied entrance because her dress attire has a crotch in it," Melissa Krueger wrote in a Facebook post. "The lady who wouldn't let her in," she continued, "refused to look at my screen shot of the dress code."

The dress code stated, "Semi-Formal Dresses for young ladies. Please plan your attire within a conservative manner. We do allow strapless and knee length short dresses, as well as 2 piece dresses with less than 2" gap at midsection. We highly discourage dresses that are too revealing and that are simply too short. Dresses that expose a plunging neckline or backlines are NOT appropriate. You will not be allowed in if your dress is questionable. DO NOT wear: jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps, and any clothing [with] offensive language or material."

Next to a photo of her daughter's outfit on Facebook he mother asked, "tell me this isn't semi formal attire?"

She "thought there had to be a misunderstanding," Melissa told Yahoo Lifestyle. "What century are we in?"

The Facebook page for the event appears to be have been taken down, but in a statement to ABC, the organizer said that, "only 1 student had to be turned away and it was due to dress code. We offered her an opportunity to come back if she could change into the dress code. We would have loved to had [sic] 100% attendance. However, her ticket was refunded after the event and we confirmed that she did not return."

Darcy's mother says it's not about the money, and they hope to see the rules changed.
