Nowadays, everyone is looking for a more beautiful smile. But tooth discoloration due to eating some foods, lack of oral hygiene, and genetics reduce this beauty. Worse than it, is that a root canalled tooth become black or gray after trauma or endodontic therapy. Imagine, when a person smiles, one of his teeth is darker than the others. It catches everyone's attention. Whitening a root canalled tooth is not something that the patient can do with home remedies or by using teeth whitening products in pharmacies because the tooth is black inside. Therefore, he should refer to the emergency dental clinic to have his teeth white inside.

The stains on the teeth are divided into external and internal groups. Accordingly, teeth whitening or bleaching is divided into two categories of living or non-living teeth whitening. If stains on the teeth are caused by consuming stained food, smoking, lack of oral hygiene, or taking medication, a live teeth whitening method is used that the cosmetic dentist  will clean and polish the surface of the tooth. However, when the color of a tooth becomes black, it needs more severe teeth whitening treatment.

Why Does A Root Canalled Tooth Change its Color?

After the endodontic therapy, discoloration of the root canalled tooth is considered normal. Not only after the root canal therapy that the color of the tooth changes from the inside but also can trauma lead to the discoloration of the tooth to gray, brown, pink, and purple. The origin of this discoloration is due to blood vessels that have already flowed inside the pulp. In the case of root canalled tooth, the use of filler material to close the canals can also cause discoloration.

How Is a Teeth Whitening Treatment Is Done for Root Canalled Tooth?

Determining the cause of tooth discoloration, preventing its progression, and re-occurring in the future has been the first and most crucial step in whitening the root canalled tooth. At first, a radiograph is taken of the tooth in the dental clinic to examine the tooth condition. For the root canalled tooth, it should be checked for the presence of infection. If it needs endodontic therapy, the emergency dentist performs root canal therapy for him, and then teeth whitening treatment is done.

The technique of teeth whitening treatment for root canalled teeth is unique. First, a mixture of bleaching agents, which usually contains sodium perborate and hydrogen peroxide, briefly enters the darkened dental canal space. The reaction of this substance together causes the tooth to become white. Sometimes these treatments need to be repeated several times to give the teeth the desired color. Once the desired color is reached, the tooth is closed, and the tooth is restored.

It is complicated to whiten a root canalled tooth, and because the stains are innate and internal, the tooth may not respond to treatment. If the tooth remains dark, there is no way other than using veneer to coat the outer surface of the discolored tooth. The tooth is molded, and veneers are made according to molds in the lab. Then, the emergency dentist will place the veneer on the tooth two weeks later. For missing teeth, the dentist use dental implants to improve your smile.
