Dental crowns are used to protect the teeth from various kinds of problems like tooth decay, tooth fall, and many other kinds. People use stainless steel crowns to protect the teeth from all the damages. Teeth can start decaying at any age and crowns can be used for children as well as adults. There are many types of materials used to make these crowns.

Some of them are durable and long lasting while some are not. The stainless steel crowns can be used for temporary or permanent solutions for the teeth. Here are some of the types of crowns, which can be used for various problems.

Stainless steel

The stainless steel crowns made up of stainless steel can be used on the teeth temporarily. The filling done on the tooth can be easily protected with the help of this crown. This crown can also be used for the teeth of children as well. The crown is used for the primary or milk teeth and protects it from decaying and further damage.

The crown is manufactured in such a way that it covers the whole tooth. When this tooth falls, the crown also comes out automatically and space for the permanent tooth is created. After the installation of this crown, the child need not visit the dentist repeatedly. So they are inexpensive.

Metals

Single metal is not used in making a crown but a mixture is used for the purpose. This mixture is called alloy, which consists of the strong materials to make the crowns strong. The alloys mostly have high quantity of gold along with other metals like platinum cobalt, nickel, chromium, and many more. These crowns do not get damaged easily due to chewing and biting forces. They also withstand wear and tear.

One disadvantage is that they are made up of gold so the price is very high. The crown is good for molar teeth.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal

These crowns are developed in order to match the color of the damaged tooth, on which a crown has to be fitted, with the adjacent tooth. The crown is not able to withstand wear and tear and their life is short. The crown has the tendency to break apart.

The look of this crown is same like teeth but the metal fused in the crown can show a dark line. The crowns are good for the back and front teeth and can also be used in protecting the bridges.

All resin

The cost of this crown is very low in comparison to other crowns. These crowns wear and tear easily and can break easily.

All ceramic

The crown made with this material provides natural color to the teeth. The material is suitable for those people who have allergy with metal. The crowns made with this material are suitable for front and back teeth.

Wrapping up

There are many other types of crowns, which people can choose for their teeth. These crowns protect the teeth from decaying and give a good look. Some of them are very strong while others are prone to fracture and have a short life.
