American Dental Association believes that the first toothbrush in the world appeared in China. In 1498, the Chinese emperor first used the pig bristle toothbrush with bone as the handle. Later, the toothbrush was widespread in Europe. However, poor family usually shared a toothbrush due to the very high price. Until Dupont substituted Nylon for pig bristle in 1938, toothbrush is popular among people.

William Addis is an Englishman. In 1770, he was sentenced to imprisonment for a riot in London. At that time, people often cleaned their teeth by cloth dampened with dentifrice or salt. China Toothbrush

Different from most prisoners, he is good at thinking about problems with his own brain. One morning, when Addis was cleaning his teeth, it occurred to him if the brush could be an alternative to a rag. After supper, he brought a pig bone to the cell and asked for a bunch of bristle. During the whole night, he devoted himself to the toothbrush. Firstly, he ground the bone down to a stick and drilled some small holes in it. Then he stuck the bristle into these holes, fixed them and pruned the bristle.

After he came out of prison, he set up the first toothbrush manufacturer of the world in London. And his toothbrushes were very popular and sold well. In 1808, he passed away and his eldest son inherited his business. Organic Toothbrush

From the perspective of modern science, animal hair is not the ideal material of toothbrush. Animal hair is easy to breed bacteria and difficult to get dry. In addition, the animal hair toothbrush is easy to lose hair. Nylon is a synthetic fibre with many advantages. In 1938, Dupont Company put forward the first toothbrush made of Nylon, which is the beginning of modern toothbrush.
