7 Beautiful Rituals That Are Followed In A Kayastha Matrimony

One of the most colorful and joyous communities among so many of these is the Kayastha community. This community is usually seen in the regions of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and other regions of Delhi NCR. Their weddings are one of the most beautiful weddings of all times and their rituals are even more entertaining. All the members of the Kayastha family come together to celebrate the wedding of the Kayastha bride and grooms.

In a Kayastha matrimony, there are a number of rituals that need to take place at both the girl’s and the boy’s end for the wedding to take place successfully. While many of the rituals are the normal ones that you can see happening in other regular weddings of any community, there are many of the rituals that are quite unique to the Kayastha community itself.

Lagan Ceremony
Lagan ceremony is the first ceremony that takes place in any Kayastha wedding ceremony. Once the matchmaking is done, the families of the bride and the groom come together for the lagan ceremony. It is a very colorful and vivacious function at any wedding. In this ceremony, the families of the bride as the groom come together to send our formal invitation to each other for the wedding in the form of a lagan parika. The lagan Patrika is not sent alone to the families of the other party.

The matrimony profiles of the Kayastha families get together to exchange gifts on this occasion as well. They also send out betel nuts, silver-colored coconut, and barley in gold color. This is something that both the families send out. However, now, the bride’s family also needs to send out these things along with some sweets, dry fruits, and clothes for the groom’s family. A Ganesh Puja takes place and then the bride’s family gives their gifts to the groom and his family.

Farisht
The next unique and interesting video that the families of Kayastha to-be life partners are the Farisht. This is especially a beautiful ritual for the groom’s family in the Kayastha community. In this ritual the groom and his family send out a complete list of the guests (including the family and friends) is send out to the bride’s family. This list not just comprise the names of the guests but also the names of the Gods and Goddesses at the beginning of the list.

But the thing that makes this ritual even more interesting is that the groom in the Kayastha family is not supposed to write the list in a simple manner. The twist is that they have to write the list in a very poetic manner. Yes, they need to create a poem including the names of all the guests and the Gods and Goddesses.

Bhat Nyota
Any India profile in the Kayastha community would know the importance of the Bhat Nyota ceremony at this wedding. This is a common wedding ritual that is seen in a number of other wedding ceremonies as well. Here, the mothers of the bride and the groom visit their own parent’s home to send them special invites.

They visit there with a lot of pomp and there is singing, dancing, and feasting. In return, the mothers’ respective families come for the wedding and give gifts to the matrimony profiles on the wedding day itself.

Haldi Kutaai
Most of us have seen the Haldi ceremony taking place at any wedding ceremony. It is a ceremony where the bride and the groom are made to sit and thee families and friends apply Haldi also known as turmeric in English on them to make their skin glow on the d-day. This is specially done at the groom’s place. The ladies of the groom’s family get together and get ready by wearing Nath, tikas, and chunri. They prepare haldi that is sent over to the house of the bride so that she can apply it to herself for the wedding.

Mandapchadan
The next wedding ritual that is seen in the homes of the Kayasth families is the Mandapchadan ritual. This is usually a ritual that is celebrated by the male elders of the groom’s family. The five male elders come together and participate in this unique and beautiful ritual for the Kayastha matrimony. Even in the Bengali wedding, this ritual is seen. The mandap is erected by the male members and it has four bamboos, mango leaves, and banana stumps as the pillars, and hay is used to make its roof.

Imli Ghutna
The next ritual that the partners who have met through a matchmaker or through matrimonial sites undertake is the Imli Ghutna. This is to spread positivity in the families. It is a ritual that aims to seek blessings from the Gods for the smooth happening of the wedding ceremony.

Parichhavan
The next interesting ritual that we see in a Kayastha matrimony is that of Parichhavan. This is a ritual that is performed right before the Barat chadhai. In this ritual, the groom's mother performs a Pooja and an aarti to seek blessings from god and ensure that her son brings his wife safely home.
