Essential Documents to Carry While Travelling Abroad

Moving abroad can be a challenging as well as exciting for anyone. This experience can also bring many unpredictable situations if you are not prepared. So, for preventing your trip from being a disaster, we have put together a list of required documents which you will need overseas.

  1. Passport is prerequisite for travelling abroad. If you are a passport holder then make sure it does not expire within the next six months of your trip. In case, you do not possess a passport, then apply for it prior your trip, as it can take quite a while to acquire one.
  2. A visa is also required when you plan an international excursion. In order to process the visa request, some documents are requisite to go through the attestation or apostille process. Document attestation not only helps in processing the visa, but it also provide validity to the documents overseas. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the nodal ministry for consular legalization of documents for use in India and abroad.
  3. Attested educational certificates are mandatory if you want to pursue higher education abroad. All educational certificates are liable to be attested by the Human Resource Development (HRD) and the MEA for procuring authenticity overseas.
  4. If you are going on a family visa sponsored by your spouse, then you are required to carry your original attested marriage certificate. The State Home department is the sole governmental authority designated to attest the personal documents like marriage certificate.
  5. You will also require a work permit if you are relocating for a job. Unfortunately, you can’t apply for the work permit by yourself, rather it will be sponsored by your foreign employer. Work permit is mandatory, if you are going to join a new organization abroad.
  6. Expatriates are also required to carry their immunization booklet because numerous countries entails a particular type of immunization for averting diseases like Yellow fever and cholera. You can visit your physician for the vaccines before your planned departure.
