How to Avoid Paint Bubbling

Posted by Benjamin Moore Newton on January 17th, 2020

Paint bubbling is a common issue experienced by homeowners when painting their homes. Just like what the term suggests, bubbles appear under the layer of paint, so that they look like small blisters on an otherwise even surface. These bubbles can look unsightly, especially if you choose interior paint in Surrey that is more noticeable such as the case of darker-colored paint.

There could be some reasons why paint bubbling happens. The first is contamination. If the surface isn’t cleaned properly prior to adding the interior paint in Surrey, the paint won’t adhere properly, leading to the appearance of small air bubbles.

You can rectify this by scraping the affected area and then spot-correcting it. If a bigger surface area is affected, make sure you clean the area thoroughly. Dip a sponge in a cleaning solution and apply it to the affected wall. Use a clean rag to dry up the area and thoroughly air dry it before putting anything like a primer or a paint over it.

Another reason why this can happen is the lack of a primer. Some surfaces require the use of a primer. Porous surfaces such as raw wood will need a primer to allow the paint to adhere better. Otherwise, the paint will just gloss over it. Bare drywall also requires priming. Like the previous solution, you can scrape off the paint with the air bubbles and patch it up with new paint material.

Also, consider what kind of primer you should use. In areas that are prone to moisture such as the kitchen and the bathroom, it is better to use primers that are moisture-resistant.

The paint will refuse to adhere as well if the environment is wet. It might not come directly from water but from condensation that forms in environments that are humid. This is why rooms that have poor ventilation tend to be more prone to bubbling paint problems.

If you already notice a high moisture level in the room, address the source of the problem first before applying interior paint in Surrey. Ideally, you should check the moisture levels in the room with a hygrometer before applying paint.

Check to see if the surrounding area is too hot as well as this can also prevent the paint from adhering properly to the walls. Such is the case of areas in the home such as the living or the kitchen where they might get a lot of sunlight due to bigger windows. It is ideal to wait until the sun doesn’t hit these areas and until the temperature cools down to an acceptable level before applying paint.

You also need to choose the right interior paint in Surrey. Pick Benjamin Moore Newton paint to ensure that you can get clean and smooth results.
