Advantages and disadvantages of the use of steel in construction

Mainly the characteristics that have led to this success as a material for use in construction are the relatively high capacities of transmitting heat, current, low weight, and the capabilities in the application of stress, compression, and shear stresses. Also, steel accumulates, within its advantages, that the majority of properties remain constant over the years as long as they are given adequate care.

Also, en 10025 6 s690ql steel in construction is usually combined with other materials to obtain the best results in terms of capacity as much as architectural finishes.

What is steel?

Steel is an alloy or combination of iron and carbon (around 0.05% to less than 1.7%, maximum depending on its use). The proportion of carbon in the conformation of  sa 283 gr c steel influences its characteristics.

Steel for Construction Use (Structural):

Structural steel is known as the result of the alloy of iron, carbon, and small amounts of other elements such as silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and oxygen, which give it specific characteristics. Hot rolled 16mo3 plate, manufactured for structural purposes, is referred to as carbon structural steel, with a creep limit of two hundred and fifty (250) mega yards (2 • 549 kg / cm2).

Structural a285c plate can be economically laminated in a variety of shapes and sizes without a definite change in its physical properties. Normally the most advantageous members are those that have large section modules in proportion to their cross-sectional areas. The forms I or W, T, and channel, so commonly used, belong to this class.

Steel profiles are identified by the shape of their cross-section, as examples are angles, Zetas, and plates.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Steel as a Construction Material:

Advantages of steel as a structural material:

  • High strength

The high strength of  astm a516 gr 60 steel per unit of weight implies that there will be little weight of the structures; this is of great importance in the design of beams of large clearings.

  • Uniformity

Steel properties do not transform considerably over time, as is the case with actual resistant structures.

  • Durability

Steel plates  will last indefinitely if the maintenance of the steel structures is adequate

Other important advantages of structural steel are:

  • Great facility to join various members using various types of connectors such as welding, screws, and rivets.
  • Possibility of prefabricating the members of a formation.
  • Can be assembled quickly.
  • Great capacity to laminate and in a large number of sizes and shapes
  • Resistance to fatigue than concrete.

Disadvantages of steel as a structural material:

  • Maintenance cost

Most HARDOX 500 steels are susceptible to corrosion when exposed to water and air and, therefore, should be painted periodically.

  • Cost of fire protection

Although some structural members are incombustible, en 10149 2 s700mc steel sheets resistance is reduced considerably during fires. Also, it has been proven that due to its great capacity to conduct heat. It has caused the spread of fires, raising the temperature of rooms where there are no flames or ignition sparks due to the high heat conducted, it has managed to inflame other usual materials such as wood, fabric, and others.
