Lubrication is basically the control of friction. You can find this lubricant as a fluid base, solid or plastic substance. You can find many different substances which are used for lubricating a surface. Here oil and grease are the most common. Grease is a thickening agent which obtain to it's consistency and the oil is what actually lubricates. You can find oil as synthetic, vegetable or mineral based or a combination of these.

Types of lubrication:

You can find three different types of lubrication such as boundary, mixed and full film. Each of these types are different and they all rely on a lubricant and the addivities within the Oil Lube Systems  for giving protection against wear. 

Full film lubrication can be categorised into two forms such as hydrodynamic and elastohydrodynamic. When two surfaces are in sliding motion and fully separated by a film or fluid then the hydrodynamic lubrication occurs. 

Elastohydrodynamic lubrication is almost similar to hydrodynamic lubrication but it occurs when the surfaces are in rolling motion. Here the film layer in elastohydrodynamic condition is thinner than the hydrodynamic lubrication. 

Boundary lubrication is found where there are frequent starts and stops and shock loading conditions are present. Some of the lubrication have extreme pressure or anti wear addivities which help them in protecting surfaces in the event.

Mixed lubrication is a cross between boundary and hydrodynamic lubrication. While the bulk of the surfaces are separated by lubricating layer and here the asperities still make contact with each other.
